You are not alone if
you find the original King James Version Bible hard to understand. You probably
want to read and study a translation of the scriptures that is modern and
up-to-date, but still retains the original purity, religious beauty, and spiritual
meaning of the original Hebrew and Greek language.
The translation of
the Bible into what is now known as the New King James Version (NKJV) was
completed in 1982. The goal of the
religious scholars and Christian church leaders who performed the translation
was to update the vocabulary and grammar, while preserving the classic style
and beauty of the original Hebrew Old Testament and the Greek New Testament.
The most significant
changes in the New King James
Version Bible is in the word
order, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling; as well as its abandonment of the
second person pronouns “thou,” "thee," “ye,” “thy,” and “thine.” Verb
forms were also modernized in the NKJV (for example, "speaks" rather
than "speaketh").
